Catholic Faith

Run by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, DMHCSM aims at educating young people with love, reason, religion and in a family spirit of joy and harmony, incorporating the educational philosophy of St. Mary Mazzarello and St. John Bosco.
Our school provides religious and moral education in the formal and informal curricula, offering ample chances for students to experience and understand the Catholic faith, which helps them to live with a clear sense of direction and to find the true meaning of life.

I.Formal Curriculum

Ethics and Religious Education (ERE) is taught in each form, which equips students with biblical knowledge and Catholic core values.
Besides, we also provide Ethics and Religious Studies (ERS) as a DSE elective subject, which enhances students’ ability to apply religious tradition knowledge and understanding to real life situations, perform critical thinking skills with reference to relevant ethical concepts and theories.
Through experiential learning, we aim to promote the presence of religious elements in both classroom and extracurricular learning experiences, strengthening the connection between religion and students while increasing their personal reflections on faith, making the related learning more effective.

II.Informal Curriculum

We also have an informal curriculum (including prayer, prayer service, liturgy, celebration of feast days, pilgrimage etc.), which enables students to understand, appreciate and celebrate the richness of the Catholic Tradition and support students in their lifelong journey of faith.

III.Catholic Society

DMHCSM has a very strong religious atmosphere. Committee members of the Catholic Society (KATSO) help organize different religious events on campus to create a richer and more lively catholic atmosphere.

IV.Sheepfold

Sheepfold is a group which allows students to put ‘love’ in action. In the past two years, students hosted a variety of charity work, including Caritas Bazaar, visiting seniors who live alone, visiting street cleaners and the homeless etc. These experiences help develop students’ empathy and understanding of different lives and expose them to social issues and challenges faced by marginalized communities, broadening their perspectives and increasing awareness of societal inequalities.

V.Formation for Catholic staff and students

To deepen students and staff’s identity and knowledge as a Catholic, we also offer catechism classes and arrange sacrament (e.g. sacrament of reconciliation, fasting lunch gathering were arranged during lent season etc. ).

VI.Introducing different mindfulness practices

Mindfulness practices help enhance students’ awareness of the present moment, promoting mental clarity, emotional regulation, and a deeper connection with oneself and others.
Besides our daily 5-min meditation time, a variety of mindfulness practices are also introduced in ERE lessons.
