The process of making cheongsam includes measurement taking, fabric cutting, lining cutting, sewing, ironing, shell fabric and lining assembling, collar production, binding production, fell seam sewing, sleeve setting and button sewing, etc. The instructors of the Art Centre use traditional CheongSam sewing techniques to create contemporary art.
2) The Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme
– Blown Sugar Technique (2019-2020)
Blown sugar craftsmen use maltose and heat it into sugar gum, and add different flavours and food colourings to make sugar figurines e.g. Chinese zodiac, figure dolls, flowers, birds, fish, insects and animals. In addition, the sugar gum is kneaded into a ball, pull out a long blowpipe, and blow it with a mouth. The blown sugar figurine is very thin and easy to fragile, so it is not easy to preserve; and it is usually eaten after playing and enjoying it.
3) The Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme
–Dough Figurine Crafting Technique (2020-2021)
The dough figurine craftsman has a suitcase filled with colourful dough - after a series of kneading, pinching and pulling with their hands, a lifelike dough figurine is finished within a few minutes. The dough sculptures are usually displayed on a wood board filled with small holes so that children and visitors can select their favourite figurines.
